Our Mission
Empowering Kilifi’s Fishing Community and Protecting Our Oceans
Kilifi’s beautiful coastline relies on a healthy ocean, but it faces challenges like overfishing and pollution that threaten marine life and local fishermen.
At Ocean Sole, we are committed to fostering a sustainable future for Kilifi fishing community and restoring our reefs. Inspired by Kuruwitu Conservancy, we will focus on community-driven conservation and innovative livelihood solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
Together, we can protect marine life and support local communities for future generations.

How We Will Achieve It

Reef to Roots: A Holistic Path to Sustainability
Your contribution this year will empower Kilifi’s fishing communities and drive sustainable change through three key initiatives:
1. Exploring Community-Led Conservation
We aim to show Kilifi’s fishermen the transformative potential of marine protected areas, like Kuruwitu. By sparking discussions around conservation-led solutions for Bofa Beach, we hope to inspire community-driven efforts to protect and restore marine ecosystems.
2. Developing Alternative Livelihoods
To reduce pressure on Kilifi’s overfished reefs, we’re introducing sustainable income-generating projects such as:
-
Fisher Training & Marine Stewardship: Training fishermen as reef rangers and snorkelling guides, equipping them with the skills to protect, manage, and interpret marine ecosystems while generating sustainable income through eco-tourism.
-
Aquaculture Hatchery Systems: Establishing community-led hatcheries that regenerate key reef species while creating jobs and alternative income streams, reducing pressure on wild fish stocks.
These initiatives not only provide financial security but also give marine ecosystems a chance to recover.
3. Improving Food Security
By improving food sources and providing training on sustainable practices we aim to enhance community resilience. Your donation is an investment in a sustainable future for Kilifi’s oceans and communities.
Your donation is more than just financial support—it’s an investment in a future where oceans thrive and communities flourish together.
Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and secure a sustainable future for Kilifi.
