A Living Wall: Planting Protection, Purpose, and Love at the Orphanage

In the heart of coastal Kenya, something beautiful is beginning to grow — not just in the soil, but in the spirit of a community coming together.

Last week, we had the joy of planting 100 indigenous trees around the orphanage, thanks to a generous donation from our friends at LEAF Charity. These trees will one day stand tall as a living wall — offering shade, habitat, and natural security for the children who live there. For now, they’re young and tender — but they’re already being cared for like family.
With fencing costs currently out of reach, this green boundary is a sustainable solution rooted in hope. It's a long-term vision that reflects our values as a social enterprise in Kenya, committed to both environmental stewardship and human dignity.

What made the day especially moving was the presence of our Ocean Sole Mamaz — women from local communities who brought compost, tools, and wisdom to share. Watching them work side-by-side with the children, nurturing the earth together, was deeply touching. The interaction between mother and orphan spoke volumes: about community, healing, and what it means to grow something together.

Each tree has now been “adopted” by the children, who water and care for them daily. It’s become more than a conservation effort — it’s a lesson in responsibility, resilience, and the power of small acts.

This is community-based conservation at its most tender: teaching children not only about marine conservation and flip flop pollution solutions, but also about land, roots, and how to create a sustainable future — one seedling at a time.
We’re proud to integrate this project into our larger ocean plastic recycling and regenerative agriculture efforts. It complements the kitchen garden initiative and reflects our commitment to education through art and action.
