At Ocean Sole, our strength lies not only in the art we create from discarded flip-flops, but in the people who bring passion, creativity, and heart to our mission. Today, we are delighted to introduce the newest member of our family — Rehema.
Rehema joins us as a community liaison, a role that sits at the very heart of our work. Growing up along Kenya’s coast and now pursuing a degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries at Pwani University, she brings both academic knowledge and deep local understanding. What makes her truly special is her ability to bridge cultures and voices: while most of our team communicates in Swahili and English, many of the coastal communities we partner with speak Giriama. Rehema’s fluency ensures that no voice is left unheard, enabling us to listen more deeply, learn more richly, and design programs that truly meet communities where they are.

Her journey has already been marked by dedication to conservation. From managing turtle hatcheries with the Tiwi Turtle Police, to restoring mangroves in Watamu and Marereni, to engaging in countless beach cleanups, Rehema has lived her values. She is also instrumental in collecting historical stories and data from local communities — ensuring that their knowledge, traditions, and perspectives guide the way we shape future initiatives.
Beyond her impressive skills, Rehema radiates warmth. She is bubbly, approachable, ambitious, and passionately committed to community empowerment and conservation. Whether she’s leading outreach sessions, planting mangroves, or gathering stories from elders, she carries with her the rare ability to make everyone feel seen and heard.

We believe Rehema will play a pivotal role in helping Ocean Sole deepen its impact, not just in cleaning oceans, but in building lasting bonds with the communities we serve.
Please join us in giving her the warmest welcome.Welcome to the family, Rehema — we’re so excited to make waves together!
